I’ve been doing a lot more posting of pictures on my instagram, you know sometimes when you just want instant pictures to do the talking. I missed the little photo diary compilations of my favourite insta-posts, so here’s one today. I’m hoping to return to that point where sharing doesn’t feel so alien. One of the few cons of being the “Quiet” type*, you can get to a point where you feel trapped behind your silence, you forget what it’s like to be openly expressive and care free, not just with your opinions, but your creativity too. I want all that to change.
Well maybe not all, because I still love my introverted qualities, I just don’t want to feel crippled by them.
Balance is what I’m in need of. I know I’ll get there.
For now, baby steps.
And just in case anyone wanted to know where they can get their hands on some of the pieces featured,

*”Quiet” type: “You’re not the quiet type, you make YouTube Videos!” …I know this thought will cross some people’s minds, it’s even been said to me in real life before, but it’s true I make YouTube videos, but I’m also the quiet, introverted type who just happens to have extroverted qualities. Just so ya’know!
Find out if you’re like me or where you fall on the introvert-extrovert spectrum here.

I know exactly what you mean “quiet type”. I have chosen to pursue a career in Fashion, which I have thought about for probably 10 years, but I am always fearful of putting myself out their creatively. I say we make this collective goal for introverts everywhere to try and do something outside of our comfort box. On a side note, you seem to get prettier every post, and believe it or not you confidence and creativity has been coming through more in you videos lately. Keep it up.
I’m totally the same! I prefer to be quiet, but still blog and do YouTube. I get you haha 🙂

I think people have seriously confused ideas of what being an introvert can mean. We don’t all shy away and live in a hole! We’re out there in the real world, talking to people too! We just like our own company and aren’t necessarily as loud as others.

Hello Shirley,
Personally this is the trait that I love the most your introverted side. You open your world in your way, and I feel like I know you as a virtual friend that I found on youtube. I’ve never had the feeling of staying at the doorway quite the opposite . You’re a quiet strength and your presence on social media although sometimes rare is always a real pleasure in the discovery of a new beautiful image of you or what surround you. It’s good to want to make a step forward, but do it only if you feel the urge deep. We love you as you are and with the best things you’ve already do.
BTW I did the test and I am also introverted.
Take care Shirley!.
Fatou
Thank you Fatou. You always leave such beautiful and inspiring comments. And you are right, only if I feel the urge deep down to. Much love. <3
I love posts like this. I totally get that introvert-extrovert stereotype. People always assume that just because I’m capable of socializing doesn’t mean I feel the need to do it all the time.
I have no idea what I am, I’ve never been able to fully say I’m one or the other. I think I am a mixture of both, I’ll do the test and see. Love that you are posting here, I really like your blog! 🙂
BTW! The test did say I was mixture of both! 😛
i always love seeing new content on your blog!! i too am more of an introvert, but i think one of the best things about blogging is the CREATIVE process as opposed to the act of oversharing 🙂 Thank of it that way, it makes everything easier!!

Thank you. I so agree. I have a fear of oversharing, because I feel it will divert from the creative process which I enjoy so much. But often times, I wonder whether I’m too far behind a wall and unreachable, and I wouldn’t want any of you to feel that way or my creativity to not feel real enough for you to enjoy, you know? So happy you understand! <3
I can relate. People hear the word introvert and automatically think “shy”.
I completely understand what you’re saying Shirley. I’m a introverted as well but I have recently come out of my shell since my retail job requires me to do so. I’ve decided to have a career in fashion as a designer & I know I’ll need to develop more articulately & expressively if I want to do well with presenting my ideas & collections to others. It’s kind of frightening yet exciting at the same time.
Same here, it also makes me uncomfortable when people mistake introverted with snobby or rude. We love our introverted ways and we are proud of them. Great post, loved it!
P.S what app did you use for your photo collage?
I totally relate.

I know exactly what you mean Shirley. I just don’t want to share everything all the time but I think that can definitely be a good quality too. Love your Instagrams too, love the grey co-ord set! x

Hi shirley! I love you and your videos so much, and this post makes me feel like I know you a little bit better. I also want to know how you edit your instagram photos? Your aesthetic is amazing <3
I’m an introvert myself with a bit of extroverted qualities!
I love your photos. I can definitely relate to you
I am also the quiet type and everything you wrote is right on point. And that is my weak point.

i tried to force myself to be more of an extrovert and it just…didn’t feel right lol can’t fight who you are!
I think that there’s absolutely nothing wrong with being a little more of an introvert. It’s an important aspect of your personality and that’s why I like you so much! Of course, you should try to find the right balance for you to be happy, but don’t feel as if you have to change into someone else ♥
I am one of those people who get called the quiet type – know the feeling. Your photography is stunning!

I too am an introvert with extroverted qualities.
Most of the time I keep my thoughts to myself and I live inside my head…you can find me reading a book or doing some other things alone.
But when I’ with friends and family or in some random instances I talkative and bubbly and engaging everybody.
Nothing wrong with it…just how we are haha.

Funny because I have always been the quiet type but I have no problem making a YouTube video. If this makes and sense I am an introverted person in different atmospheres.
Hi Shirley!
I understand what you mean with the ‘quiet’ type. I can relate to it!
I bought the same skirt that you’re wearing, but it fits so tight at my calves that I barely can’t walk. This sounds so stupid, haha. On my other parts it fits great. Don’t you have that problem when you’re wearing it?
Oh Shirley, I missed you! I understand what you mean about the ‘quiet’ type 🙂 Your looks are always so clean and minimalistic in the most perfect way.

hi Shirley,
i am avid reader of your blog every since i discovered your youtube channel, i admire the fact that you have carved a niche for your self while you still maintained the core values that makes you who you are, just want to say that you are an inspiration. this is my first time ever that am posting on a blog.
PS: i wanted to add that i totally understand your write up as i am some one who is very fashionable but quite reserved which tends to create the misconception that my reservation is a result of pride or shyness, in the earlier stages of my life i used to agonize over this but now i know that those who take the steps to know me find out that am neither of those things, i guess that’s why i dislike stereotyping especially with regards to people. Xo
agreed
so true
It would be awesome if you would to sing up to soundcloud. I would like to know what kind of music you enjoy listening 🙂

Shirley, as a young inexperienced 14 year old fashion/beauty blogger, your blog posts and YouTube videos are so helpful and inspiring for me! I also took the introvert-extrovert test you linked and turns out i’m smack in the middle, an ambivert aha. Thank you for doing what you do, keep it up! <3 And anyone willing to take the time to look at my new blog, A La Baron, will be much appreciated, thank you xo
I totally get you! lol. I’ve been described as “an introvert in an extroverted way” . I’m a Capricorn too so I completely get it. and thank you for this post. been trying to find some sort of balance and not let me introverted side take over. Being aloof all the time doesn’t serve anyone.
I’m an extroverted introvert 🙂 Totally understand how you feel. Me time before we time!
One of the few cons of being the “Quiet” type*, you can get to a point where you feel trapped behind your silence, you forget what it’s like to be openly expressive and care free, not just with your opinions, but your creativity too.
That spoke to me. I haven’t shared a picture of me in like 5 years and although i’m very opinionated I just stopped putting my thoughts out there ? I wasn’t always this way though, I used to be calm and I liked my space but at the same time I was social and I liked sharing my thoughts (mostly about social injustice). I was depressed when I started college because I was so confused about what I really wanted to do (I’m a maths & engineering graduate) and somehow during that period I got addicted to solitude.
I feel like you’re balanced in your sharing. It’s not too much or too little, it’s just enough. We all respect and love you regardless.
I hope to be like that one day, start sharing again but no so much that I feel uncomfortable about it.

Krystal
I love the commentary on this post! It’s so refreshing to know that im not the only one who struggles with their introvert/extrovert duality as well. Please continue to share!
Connie
One word for you Shirley..timeless. I always love what you offer us such a inspiration that is always welcome.
your style is amazing !
wow, I feel so energized by these comments. One thing I know is, us Introverts are extremely creative but we spend so much time living in our heads that we fear to share wondering what other people will think of us. Maybe it is the stigma attached to introverts I don’t know…. But after reading these comments, I am so motivated to share my creativity with others.. thank you XOXO
I think I’m a mix of both. Youtube scares me. I’ve tried and still trying but it seems harder for fear of divulging too much
